Trekking in Nepal in the Annapurna range was a retirement gift to myself and something I thought would focus my energy now that I wasn't working and before I contemplated the big retirement question--now what? Samara Journeys is the company who organized the Trek and it exceeded in every way my expectations for adventure , challenge and more importantly, being cared for and safe in the mountains. We were a group of fourteen who opted for tenting rather than tea houses and it was a great choice! We traveled with our own chef and kitchen staff
who went out of their way to create delicious and different meals three times a day. Our sirdar selected a wonderful team of Sherpas to guide and encourage us daily. They were kind and friendly and interesting to talk to, willing to keep pace with any of us or take a day pack if one was tired or under the weather. The Sherpas set up our camp daily, served the meals , and brought tea and hot water to our tents in the morning . Our tour directors looked after every travel detail, determining each day's lunch and rest area, and the route of our trek. Travelling within Nepal was looked after and planes , coaches and hotels were all waiting for us wherever we arrived and our luggage was taken care of as well. The experience of travelling deep in the country with a way of life that has existed for centuries with people who are open and friendly was truly rewarding. Each of us who journeyed was honoured for taking our own path at our own pace. I look forward to going back to Nepal for another inspiring trek.
