Buddhism Tour of Sikkim

Guru Padmasambhava, the great Buddhist saint and the restorer of Buddhism in Tibet, had prophesied during his travels to Tibet in the 7th century, that amongst the holy hidden lands or "Bey-Ney"; personally consecrated by him, "Bey-Yul Demazong" Sikkim, was the holiest. Here he had hidden a vast religious treasure of Holy Scriptures, icons, etc. to be discovered and interpreted in the future. It was the fulfillment of this prophecy that Lhatsun Chenpo, Rikzen Chenpo and Ngadak Sempo Chenpo, came to Sikkim to propagate Buddhism. The three monks met at Yuksom in 1641 and coronated the first Chogyal - the Religious King.

These events have been given shape to rich heritage of Buddhism in Sikkim manifesting in over 200 monasteries, chortens, and holy caves and influencing the society in general.

This itinerary has been drawn up to provide you a lasting experience of the "Buddha Dharma" as practiced in Sikkim.

Itinerary

DAY 01:
Bagdogra -Rumtek (1600 mts) Distance: 124 km. Time: 4 hrs approx
Drive from Bagdogra to Rumtek.
Over night hotel.

DAY 02:
Rumtek - Gangtok. Distance: 24 km. Time: 45 mins
Visit the Dharma Chakra Centre at Rumtek.
Drive to Gangtok.
Overnight hotel

DAY 03:
Gangtok. Full Day Sightseeing.
Enchey monastery.
Do-Drul Chorten:

Ngor Gompa:
Overnight hotel.

DAY 04:
Gangtok.
Day return excursion to Phodang and Phensang monasteries.
Return to Gangtok.
Overnight hotel.

DAY 05:
Gangtok– Pemayangtse - Pelling (2055 mts)
Visit the Pemayangtse Monastery.
Overnight hotel.

DAY 06:
Pelling – Yuksom (1770 mts.) Distance: 55 km. Time: 3 ½ hrs. (approx.)

Drive to Khecheodpalri Lake:

Day 07:
Yuksom - Tashiding - Ravangla (1950 mts) Distance: 58 km. Time: 3 1/2 hrs (approx.)
Visit Dubdi monastery

Day 08:
Ravangla.
Day excursion to old Ralang monastery & the New Ralang monastery -
Also a visit the Kungdraling monastery at Kewzing A short walk from the resort is the Doling monastery located amidst a thick cardamom plantation.
